Get Outdoors Day Postponed

The COVID-19 pandemic arrived just as the McKenzie River Trust was gearing up for another great year of tours, events, and volunteer projects. Staff have worked diligently to follow state of Oregon guidance for social distancing to keep people safe. We work remotely as much as possible, and have canceled events and volunteer days through May. While Oregon has had success in flattening the curve, we have also decided to postpone this event. 

MRT hosts the annual Get Outdoors Day celebration at Green Island as part of a statewide Get Outdoors Oregon Day. It’s a day for our community to connect to the work of many conservation partners at a McKenzie River Trust property. We invite biologists and other field experts to share their knowledge. We give tours and allow people to explore on their own. Local business partners come out to share their work and show support for local conservation.

Get Outdoors Day brings hundreds of families and outdoor enthusiasts to Green Island. With just a month to go and many questions remaining about COVID-19, we have decided to postpone the celebration until we can make sure everyone who comes to our event is safe and able to relax and enjoy the day. We hope that summer will bring more clarity and peace of mind, but we can’t yet say when we will host the event.
