haich ikt'at'uu Tidal Wetland Revegetation Project
The McKenzie River Trust, the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, and the Siuslaw Watershed Council are proposing to rehabilitate portions of the haich ikt’at’uu Tidal Wetland Reconnection Project area through planting of native vegetation. The haich ikt’at’uu Revegetation Project is a large-scale tidal wetland restoration effort located on the lower Siuslaw River Estuary near Florence, Oregon. The Project will establish native tidal marsh and tidal swamp plant communities to support long-term ecological function, improve habitat quality, and increase the resilience of restored estuarine ecosystems. Tidal hydrology (full and regulated) was reintroduced to the 217-acre former dairy ranch in June of 2026 by lowering and targeted breaching of an exterior levee, excavation of a network of tidal channels, and construction of a setback levee with a muted tidal regulator. Revegetation is the final phase of restoration of haich ikt’at’uu and we are looking for an experienced contractor to help us complete this project in 2026-2027.
