Exciting changes are underway for the McKenzie River recreation community! Beginning in November 2023, McKenzie River Trust broke ground on a large-scale improvement project for the Finn Rock Boat Landing. Generously funded through the Oregon State Parks Recreational Trails and Permits grant program, investments from the Lane County Parks Levy, and the generous support of private donors, large and small; this project will have wide-reaching benefits for recreational river users and commercial outfitters alike.
The landing was purchased by McKenzie River Trust in 2016 as a part of a larger conservation effort in the middle McKenzie River. McKenzie River Trust has worked with partners and volunteers to continue offering free parking and river access at the site, which was previously owned and managed by the Rosboro Lumber Company.
Beginning in 2018, the Trust started work with Cameron McCarthy Landscape Architects to design improvements that will help protect the conservation values of the area and improve the visitor experience. The Finn Rock Landing Improvement project includes novel design elements to improve the visitor experience at the landing which was informed from surveys conducted by McKenzie River Trust in 2017. The improvement project incorporates Universal Design principles, increases pedestrian safety, provides new designated gathering spaces, and offers free on-site truck and trailer parking with bird friendly lighting for those early morning fishing trips and late nights pulling a boat off the river.
McKenzie River Trust is working with Delta Sand and Gravel as the primary contractor, and expect this improvement project will continue through early summer 2024. The Trust will inform the community of its progress via social media and electronic newsletters and encourage river users to plan for alternative put-in/take-out locations for summer trips during the 2024 boating season. Once the landing improvements are completed, McKenzie River Trust will continue providing free parking and public access to the site and look forward to welcoming you back to the new and improved landing!
