Location Info

Finn Rock Reach is located just downstream of the town of Blue River, OR. You can easily navigate to the project site using Google Maps.

Region: Willamette Valley

Watershed: McKenzie

Join your friends and neighbors to help remove invasive Scotch Broom at Finn Rock Reach! In 2020, the Holiday Farm Fire moved through this area, invigorating the seed bank of this invasive species. Since that time, incredible volunteers like you have helped to remove thousands of young plants, but we need your help to get them all before they flower and set seed this June!

The Basics

During the project, you will work alongside McKenzie River Trust staff and volunteers to remove invasive Scotch Broom. The work will include using specialized tools (provided by MRT), as well as some digging and pulling. After the project, participants are invited to stick around to share a sack-lunch and get a tour or recent restoration work just upstream.

Safety and Comfort

This project is rated easy on our difficulty rating scale. Work will include limited walking. We'll be working on the forest floor so you should anticipate walking on uneven ground and bending over/stooping. We encourage all volunteers to bring appropriate layers for the weather to keep comfortable throughout the project. Close-toed shoes are required for this project.

What Will We Be Doing

Over the course of the day, you'll learn to identify invasive Scotch Broom and learn the best techniques for pulling it out. Together, we will spend the morning removing this invasive plant from the area. After the project, we invite you to stick around to learn more about restoration work in the area and how you are helping to contribute to a more resilient future for the McKenzie Watershed!
