Join McKenzie River Trust and the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative for a special volunteer project at the Oregon Dunes Day Use area just outside of Florence, OR! This project will include removing invasive species to help promote native plants that rely on open-sand habitat for survival. We'll finish up our day with an ecology tour of the area where participants will learn about Oregon's special dunes landscapes and the plants and animals who live there.
The Basics
This project will include invasive species removal. Participants should be prepared to walk for extended periods of time on uneven, dry sand. Work will include some digging, pulling, and bending over.
Safety and Comfort
This project is rated moderate on our difficulty scale and will include walking on uneven ground, bending, pulling, and digging. Participants should be comfortable walking on loose, dry sand for up to 2 miles and working on uneven ground. Participants are encouraged to bring weather appropriate attire and close-toed shoes with them to the project.
What Will We Be Doing
For this project, we'll be working under the expert guidance of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative to help care for Oregon's dunes. Work will include removing invasive species in areas with important native plant and animal populations that rely on the free flowing sands of Oregon's Dunes for survival.
