Location Info

The best way to get to Green Island is to use Google Maps to locate the property. 

Green Island is located just outside of the city of Coburg off of Green Island Rd. The turn onto Green Island Rd is a bit tricky. Coming from Eugene, you will pass Johnson Brothers Nursery. From here, continue straight. A short bit further, the road will take a sharp right and you will see a large pile of gravel ahead. At the beginning of the curve, continue straight toward the "Bottom Loop Rd" sign. At this point, you will be on Green Island Rd. Continue straight onto the gravel driveway and through the gate. Continue further past a "kiosk" and a second open gate and follow directional signage to the parking area.

The Basics

There is no better way to celebrate Earth Day than by giving back to the lands and rivers you cherish. Join McKenzie River Trust from 9:30am-Noon for a family friendly Earth Day celebration! This project is perfect for families 5 years old and up (little ones are welcome too!). Our friends from Market of Choice will be on-site with special treats to keep the whole family going as we work together to care for hundreds of baby trees and shrubs.

Safety and Comfort

This project includes walking on uneven ground, bending, and carrying light buckets. For those with limited mobility, helping to fill up buckets with light-weight mulch from the staging area is a great way to contribute! April can be a bit wet so we highly recommend that you bring rain boots and clothing that can get muddy. If you have questions about the projects difficulty or accommodations for participation, please reach out to our team!

What Will We Be Doing

Over the course of the morning, we'll be working together to help mulch hundreds of baby trees and shrubs planted in a recent restoration area on the Island. The work will include filling and carrying buckets of mulch from centralized piles out into the planting area. This bucket brigade is a great way to get out and get active while giving back to this special place we call home!
