Watershed Wednesdays at Green Island
Event is full
Location Info
Green Island is located just outside of the city of Coburg off of Green Island Rd. The turn onto Green Island Rd is a bit tricky. Coming from Eugene, you will pass Johnson Brothers Nursery. From here, continue straight. A short bit further, the road will take a sharp right and you will see a large pile of gravel ahead. At the beginning of the curve, continue straight toward the "Bottom Loop Rd" sign. At this point, you will be on Green Island Rd.
You can use Google Maps to locate the property. Continue through the open green gate at the end of the road (you can't miss us if you keep going straight!).
Please help us to be good neighbors and observe a 5-10 MPH speed limit while between pavement and the beginning of the Green Island property at the green gate.
Region: Willamette Valley
Watershed: McKenzie
Join McKenzie River Trust every Wednesday morning from 9am-11:30am at Green Island to help care for this special area where the Mckenzie and Willamette Rivers meet! Projects vary based on the season but typically include invasive species removal, habitat care or planting/tree establishment.
The Basics
Watershed Wednesday projects vary from season to season. You can expect the work to be easy to moderate in difficulty. There is a bathroom on-site. These projects are best for participants 12-years of age and older.
Safety and Comfort
For volunteer safety, please come prepared with:
- Pants to protect your legs
- Close-toed shoes
- Waterproof layers or sunscreen (depending on the weather)
- Gardening or work gloves (we can provide gloves if you need them!)
What Will We Be Doing
Work at Green Island changes from season to season. Below are some example tasks.
Fall: invasive species removal, plant propagation
Winter: invasive species removal, planting
Spring: invasive species removal, seed collection
Due to weather and climate conditions for working in native habitats, there are no Watershed Wednesday projects from June-August.
