Location Info

Quartz Creek is located near the community of Blue River, Oregon. Driving directions and specifics of where to meet will be sent after registration, ahead of the event.

Region: Willamette Valley

Watershed: McKenzie

Join us for a Willow Planting Party to learn about and support the restoration of Quartz Creek on Sunday, November 16th, from 9:30am-12pm! Quartz Creek is a key tributary of the McKenzie River, benefiting native species like salmon, trout, lamprey, beavers, and more.

We are celebrating the completion of the large-scale restoration work with a community replanting party. Staff will be on site to share about project details.

The Basics

Willow has a strong root system that helps filter water, stabilize banks, and control erosion while providing shade and thicket to support nesting habitat and shelter for fish and wildlife. It is also an important food source for native pollinators, hummingbirds, and beavers! This project will support post-restoration revegetation efforts.

Safety and Comfort

There is a nearby bathroom and jugs of drinking water available. McKenzie River Trust will provide tools and work gloves for the project. You are welcome to bring your own gloves if you like. We'll be working out in the elements, so please bring:

  • Closed-toe shoes or boots
  • Waterproof layers to stay comfortable in a variety of temperatures
  • Sturdy clothing for comfort and safety when working outdoors
  • Clothing that can get muddy and wet
  • Any allergy or other medication you may need (ex, pollen, bees, etc.)
  • Water bottle and snacks that meet your dietary needs

What Will We Be Doing

Willow will root right out of the stem when put into the ground. No experience needed - tools, gloves, and guidance provided! Work will include bending, lifting, digging, and walking on slopes or uneven ground. There are rocks and logs scattered throughout the project area, and the ground may be slippery or muddy, depending on the weather.

We will have light snacks and drinks to share. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the water’s edge after we are done working. We look forward to seeing you out there!
