The South Fork Phase III restoration project is located near the Bruckart Boat Launch, near the community of Blue River, Oregon. Driving directions and meeting details will be sent after registration, ahead of the event. Registration is required to help us prepare tools and materials.
Join us for a Willow Planting Party to learn about and support the restoration of the South Fork McKenzie River on Sunday, November 8th, from 9:30 am-12:00 pm! This past summer, restoration efforts reintroduced flowing water to hundreds of acres of historic floodplain, benefiting native plants and animals, including salmon, trout, lamprey, beavers, and others.
We are celebrating the completion of this project with a community replanting party. Join friends, neighbors, and members of the Redsides Chapter of Trout Unlimited for this special event! Restoration project partners will be on site to share details about the project.
This planting project will support post-restoration revegetation efforts. Willow has a strong root system that helps filter water, stabilize banks, and control erosion while providing shade and thicket to support nesting habitat and shelter for fish and wildlife. It is also an important food source for native pollinators, hummingbirds, and beavers!
There is a nearby bathroom at the Bruckart Boat Launch. McKenzie River Trust will provide tools and work gloves for the project. You are welcome to bring your own gloves if you like. We'll be working out in the elements, so please bring:
We will be planting willow along the water's edge within the restoration area. Willow will root right out of the stem when planted in moist soil. No experience needed - tools, gloves, and guidance provided!
Work will include bending, lifting, digging, using loppers, shovels, and mallets, and walking on slopes or uneven ground. There are rocks and logs scattered throughout the project area, and the ground may be slippery or muddy, depending on the weather.
We will have snacks and drinks to share. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the water’s edge after we are done working. We look forward to seeing you out there!
