Why It’s Important

Wren Marsh is comprised of 8 acres nestled into a 1000-acre complex of conservation lands in the Siuslaw River Estuary. Adjacent to other protected lands, it is an important area for restoring tidal flow in the lower Siuslaw estuary. Working with partners at the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, and the Siuslaw Watershed Council, restoration planning for Wren Marsh is well underway. This work will complement work done through this partnership just across the river at Waite Ranch.

Fish and wildlife on the property

Protection and restoration of Wren Marsh directly supports habitat for a variety of shore birds, Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, sea-run cutthroat trout, and winter steelhead among others. 

Supporting Coastal Communities

Restoration activities in the Siuslaw River Estuary provide new and critical habitat for numerous fish species, including commercially important salmon. Working in collaboration with the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, the area also supports and provides access to important cultural resources for Tribal members. Restoration work in the area provides jobs for local contractors and has climate positive impacts by increasing carbon sequestration capacity through the reformation of functioning wetlands.
